2016: An Year’s Review in 10 mins

Hello solitary reader,

How have you been? I have been quite busy and not had the time to write a post on this neglected blog for quite some time. However, now that 2016 is drawing to a close, I thought of reviewing the last 1 year. Introspect and take a step back before leaping into another year of adventures.

I began 2016 in Surat, Gujarat, working at a box manufacturing unit. I’m ending it in Delhi/Hapur, working as a digital marketing professional and trainer with my own tiny agency.

How strange life is!

The factory business in Surat didn’t excite me enough; I felt like a fish out of water. Choosing an opportune time, I decided to shift back. Although I was confused about my next step, I got an offer to teach a digital marketing course at a college in Delhi. Surprisingly, I decided to go for it. More surprisingly, inspite of being “unqualified” (they probably meant academically), the university decide to hire me. Looking back, I feel it was more based on my confidence.

And so I began teaching a weekend course in digital – a field that I had not done much work in since 2015. More than anything, this exercise turned out to be a refreshing update for me. The teaching restored self-confidence in my abilities and I began scouting for some freelance gigs. Gradually, I’ve now formed a team in Hapur, executing projects for clients in Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore and other cities across India.

Another sweet thing happened – I’ve resumed some work on Bollykings.com – the first blog I ever started. The blog had died due to neglect, competitor spam and Google updates. Turns out, many of the spammy websites have been killed and my blog’s link profile has improved, which is growing the traffic again. My team is confident they can get it to rank again so I’ve given them 6 months to see what we can do.

All this from my tiny town of Hapur. And I’ve just gotten started. With more plans, larger ambitions, and a small fire building inside, I want to conquer it all.

The key challenge I want to overcome in 2017 is to sharpen my vision for our agency and my life. Somewhere, the grand, making-a-dent-in-the-universe kind of vision is missing.

Why am I doing all this? What is the largest goal that I want to achieve in terms of value?

On other fronts, my long-term relationship with my college sweetheart might materialise into something much more. Keeping my fingers crossed. That too has been one helluva rollercoaster ride for me and her and I shall pen down some memories of them here someday, when the missus is finally mine and only mine, forever.

Spiritually, I’ve continued practicing Buddhism quite regularly. I haven’t been able to meet or participate in BSG activities because of being Hapur. I feel all these good experiences are primarily due to faith in this practice. I will challenge myself to take my practice to new levels in 2017 by meeting more people, and trying to inspire more people to take it up.

Goals for 2017

  1. Read 52 books. (I read 15 books in 2016)
  2. Develop a high-impact, earth shattering vision.
  3. Grow Modifyed Digital by 15 times.
    • Hit monthly revenues of Rs. 15 lac per month.
    • Grow team to 20 in NCR.
    • Start an office in NCR.
  4. Re-start Bollykings
    1. Grow monthly revenues from Bollykings to Rs. 20,000 per month from Adsense and sales.
